Pre-Professional

Pre-Physician Assistant

Though Pre-Physician Assistant is not an official degree program, Mizzou has resources dedicated to helping interested students pursue admission into PA programs. These include:

  • MedOpp Advising. The MedOpp Advising Office provides pre-professional advising for ALL students interested in medicine, dentistry, optometry, podiatry, PA, physical therapy, and occupational therapy. See https://premed.missouri.edu/prospective/ for more information.
  • Academic Advisor.

Physician Assistant schools accept applicants with a variety of majors which include everything from Music to Engineering; however, most students choose a Mizzou major with degree program requirements that overlap with requirements for PA school such as Biological Sciences, Medicinal Chemistry, Biochemistry, Biological Engineering, Nutrition and Exercise Physiology, Psychology, and Health Sciences.

Physician Assistants provide services in a number of different medical specialties including Family and General Medicine; Pediatrics – General; Internal Medicine—General; Surgery–General; Psychiatry; Obstetrics and Gynecology; Anesthesiology; Neurology; Sports Medicine; Orthopedic and Prosthetics; Oncology; Cardiology; Ophthalmology; Dermatology; etc.
