Overview:
The Peace Studies Program draws from a variety of courses that address the issue of peace and violence. The interdisciplinary nature of the program enables a student to pursue the concepts and realities of peace, war and violence from a variety of perspectives:
* Strategies of transition to global cooperation
* Theories and practices of conflict resolution
* Nonviolent methods of social change
* Economics of war and peace
* Images of peace and violence in philosophy, literature and the arts
* Anticipation and prevention of armed conflict
* Social, political and cultural roots of war
* History of pacifism and nonviolent resistance
* Relations between peace and the environment
* Peaceful and nonpeaceful uses of technology
Due to the interdisciplinary nature of the program, most of the course are cross-listed with courses in other departments.
Academic Information
Admission Requirements:
Any student may declare a major in Interdisciplinary Studies: Empasis in Peace Studies. Students must complete College Algebra and English 1000 with a C- or above and have a 2.0 cumulative GPA to complete a graduation plan with the College of Arts & Science.
Minimum GPA for Admission: 2.0
Specifically required non-major courses for the BA degree: None other than the requirements beyond A&S foundation requirements.
