Degrees:
Bachelor of Arts in French
Minor in French

Overview:
Few fields of study respond to more varied interests, encourage greater diversity, or motivate self-expresssion than the study of a foreign language. The study of French allows for the development and refinement of communication skills, and endows students with a concern for world affairs, in particular those of the French-speaking world. In addition, it provides an appreciation and respect for cultural differences.

Students who major in French at MU learn to understand, speak, read, and write fluently and correctly in the language. In addition to gaining linguistic competence in French, students also study the literature, the expression of cultural traditions, values and history of ideas of the linguistic communities, that constitute the French-speaking world. Possession of the linguistic and cultural knowledge that derive from majoring in French is an invaluable asset for full participation in the global community.
