Bachelor of Science in Human Environmental Sciences with a major in Personal Financial Planning
Minor in Personal Financial Planning Management
Overview:
The Bachelor of Science in Human Environmental Sciences with a major in Personal Financial Planning offers the option of two emphasis areas: Personal Financial Planning and Personal Financial Management Services, and a track in E-Consumer Studies.
The Personal Financial Planning program is registered with the Certified Financial Planner Board of Standards, which allows graduates to sit for the comprehensive examination to earn the marks of a Certified Financial Planner (TM). Coursework includes investments, insurance, real estate, retirement planning, estate planning, and taxation; complemented by courses designed to allow a clear understanding of the economic and social contexts within which clients make financial decisions.
The Personal Financial Management Services program prepares students to counsel individuals and families in a wide range of financial service occupations. This degree gives graduates a broad understanding of personal financial management, but not in the depth required for the CFP examination. Given greater flexibility in course selection, many students choose to support this degree with additional coursework in economics, finance, business, marketing, social work, or other related programs available at Mizzou.
The E-Consumer Studies track is a joint offering between the Departments of Personal Financial Planning and Textile and Apparel Management that is designed for those students with an interest in electronic commerce, merchandising, and consumer-based research with applications to personal finance and retailing.
