Overview:
The BFA degree provides professional training in the studio arts, while the BA degree in Art is intended for the student desiring a liberal arts education with a concentration in art. The BFA degree is required for admission to most Master of Fine Arts programs.
Students who wish to teach on the elementary and secondary levels normally pursue the BS in Education degree. Art BA and BFA candidates may acquire elementary and secondary art teaching certification by completing the additional art education requirements not already included in their BA or BFA programs.
The Art Department requires students to select a track in which to specialize. Students may choose from the following media:
Ceramics
Drawing
Fibers
Graphic Design
Painting
Photography
Printmaking
Sculpture
Academic Information
Admission Requirements:
Students must have a 3.0 GPA in all studio art courses for the Bachelor of Fine Arts degree. A portfolio is also required of those seeking admission to the Graphic Design track.
Any student may declare a major in Art. Students must complete College Algebra and English 1000 with a C- or above, have a 2.0 cumulative GPA, and meet the requirements listed above to complete a graduation plan with the College of Arts & Science.
