Degrees:
Bachelor of Science in Chemical Engineering

Overview:
Chemical engineers conduct bioscience research in areas that cater to innovative biotechnology, design and development of novel biomaterials, polymer processing, interfacial science and engineering, as well as process engineering of biomedical and biochemical technologies, towards diverse applications in the fields of medicine, pharmaceuticals, personal care products, and the environment.

Chemical engineering prepares students for careers in these areas: biotechnology, research and development of novel biomaterials, plasma technology as applied to biomedical applications, medicinal chemical engineering, environmental biotechnology, design and development of materials for personal care products.

Academic Information

Admission Requirements:
The Engineering requirements for freshman admission are as follows:

An ACT Math score of at least 22, and
an ACT Composite of at least 24 or a high school class rank in the upper 25 percent.

Freshmen who do not meet the above criteria are admitted initially into the College of Arts and Science Pre-Engineering Program. Although admitted to the College of Arts and Science as freshmen, each Pre-Engineering student receives advising by an engineering advisor.

Pre-Engineering students are eligible to transfer to the College of Engineering on satisfactory completion of 24 credit hours with a 2.0 or higher GPA and a grade of C or better in Math 1500.

A minimum GPA of 2.00 is required in all UM engineering courses and a grade of C or better is required in Chemical Engineering 2225.

Minimum GPA for Admission: 2.0

Specifically required non-major courses for the BS degree:
Math 1500, 1700, 2300
Physics 2750, 2760
Chemistry 1310, 1320, 1330, 2100, 2120
